You are probably using a wap profile, you need to use an internet profile to use opera This message was posted from a T68i

You can view html through a wap profile. U need to use the same Gprs account that you use for email access with opera, does email work on your phone? This message was posted from a T68i

if email doesnt work then opera probably wont either, this is because it is a WAP profile not an INTERNET profile. so it only allows you to connect to your service providers wap portal not to the internet.

i will try and explain it as simply as i can:

for example if u tried to access www.esato.com-

the built in browser will connect to the wap portal and ask it to fetch the page www.esato.com. the wap portal then connects to www.esato.com, reads the page, compresses it, and then sends it to your phone. your phone then decompresses it and displays it.

opera however will try to connect directly www.esato.com and read the page itself, as the wap profile only allows you to connect to the wap portal opera will be unable to connect to the site and will timeout eventually

if you use an INTERNET profile then opera can connect directly to any site and read the data and display it thus cutting thewap portal out of the middle. this however is more expensive on most networks it seems, probably because the network cant keep track of which sites are being visited and use those figures for marketing purposes.

PS if you phone ur service provider to ask for help don't be suprised if the guy on the other end of the phone doesnt know what your on about, just make sure they send you settings for an INTERNET gprs account not a WAP one (if you dont have it already)

hope this clears this up once and for all and the next load of ppl who ask this question can be redirected here for the answer, if it doesnt make sense send me a PM and i'll send u a picture which explains it in more detail.

I just got my Internet working on Opera. I'm with Vodafone and needed to:

get GPRS (obvious)
activate the Intentet APN (obvious, too)
get another mobile number added to my account purely for data access! Internet or POP3/SMTP mail will not work without this additional number. You do not need to know it, call it or advertise it anywhere, but it does need to be assigned.

Works like a dream now. At last!
