> P800 Bluetooth Woes - R2D
Bookmark topic
Hi all
All i can say with SE is that i'm disappointed in the P800's bluetooth abilities. Since release i have struggled like many of you to get bluetooth working in a satisfactory way (not to say i can't get it working, just not very effective).
i got my P800 updated to R2D base software (including the R5A bluetooth revision) and thought that they might have got it working a little better in the new version. DAMN no such luck.
Why is it that the P800's bluetooth is a pale shadow of the wonder that was the T68i's version. It worked infinitly better.
I emailed SE data/tech support a while ago and met with endless attempts to tell me how to setup bluetooth software on the PC and create a connection....which i could already, just not in the same way.
I am bemused as to what has actually changed in this new version as it appears to be just as bad as the R1G i had before.
Oh well...i might start getting at SE again to see if i can get a glimmer of inteligence from them (unlikely)
Thanks
Jamie

What exactly do you have a problem with?
I also had a T68i, and then an S55, and I found the S55 (after FW8) to be a vast improvement in Bluetooth performance over the T68i.
My P800 is even more reliable than either of these, and I have had the latest update.
I use it with my PC's Bluetooth Dongle, with a Jabra BT200, and my Palm Tungsten|T without any issues. Range is fine, I've never had it ignore the headset, which the T68i sometimes did, and I have never had to re-pair anything, which I sometimes had to do on the S55 and the T68i.

The problem is that with the T68i the phone provided 2 numbered serial ports, whenever you needed an app to connect to the phone you just selected the appropriate com port and connected, you could see the status of the connection and it would highlight as connected in the software.
With the P800, there is only a single anonymous serial port which on my PC is setup as com4, when i try to connect to it, it connects to COM0 and then switches to COM5. What happened to com4?
As a result of this connection my bluetooth tray icon crashes and i don't get the option to disconnect, i have to turn off the bluetooth on the phone or kill the PC app.
Once its connected it stays connected forever, the file transfer works ok (not as good as it could) and dial-up works ok (again not as good as it could).
Just think that they took a major step backwards in terms of reliability and usability.
If anyone can offer any good pointers to something i am doing blatantly wrong then i would appreciate the advice, but since the phone offers no options and the software itself is quite simple i can't see what i am doing wrong, since it worked brilliantly with my T68i.
Other than that absolutely love the P800, the bluetooth is my single complaint about the device.

i am having the same problems. when i try and connect my phone with my (belkin) PC bluetooth, i get an error saying the remote device closed the connection. the funny thing is that it will actually connect and i don't have any problems with transfer and such.
i am not in dire straights, but it sure is a pain in the ass.
any suggestions?

scooter.... i talked to someone from Belkin yesterday and they said there is a new version of their software (v1.3) is due out soon. the technician i talked to said this "may" solve the problem, but he didn't sound too convincing imo.
on another note... do you have your phone in "auto" or "on" bluetooth mode when you connect? i can't get my pc to find the phone in auto mode. maybe i am missing something?
thanks

Well, I've now tried C0mm0n's TDK 1.3.2.7 with the altered btwusb.inf on my Belkin, everything installed fine but PC couldn't see P800 and P800 couldn't see the PC.
Next I tried the 1.3.2.7 Billionton's which someone said they had working with their Belkin, same again, installed fine, but neither side could see each other.
Now just tried the Tecom 1.2.2.16, devices could see each other but same problem as with the Belkin drivers, the dreaded BlueScreen of Death with Btkrnl.sys after 5-10 mins of surfing via P800 Opera.
The Belkin is going back, I've spent way too much time trying to get this working reliably - I have a normally 100% stable WinXP machine and any product I find that causes BSOD has to go back - I'm very wary of even trying another USB adapter from a different manufacturer.
