> Why Addict Mobile is Good For You (PH)

Hi guys!
I just saw Smart Telecom's "Addict Mobile" mobile ad on TV. I tried accessing their site but only minimal information is available that includes a P5.00/download, the power to access a wide range of data value-added services (MMS, SMS, GPRS) without having to pay on top of your monthly service fee (so this must be a postpaid service, right?), and "Why Addict Mobile is Good For You".
My question is: How is it any different from current data services available from Smart? I'm currently using a Globe prepaid account, although I still have a Smart SIM in my drawer. Is Addict Mobile really cheaper, better?

It will indeed be cheaper because the plans are consumeable and have free minutes to boot. I really hope globe comes up with something like this, as i cannot switch to smart because of its poor signal in our area. No use having cheaper value added services when you can't have access to them.

Solon hits `addiction to mobile phone ad'

An opposition congressman criticized Tuesday a leading cellular
telephone company for coming out with a print advertisement that uses words and phrases associated with drug abuse, and called on the
company to pull out the controversial ad.
Laban Rep. Abraham Mitra of Palawan charged that Smart Communications' new marketing gimmick for its new "Addict Mobile"
service is a "nonsubliminal paean to drug addiction."
The controversial ad, which came out in major newspapers, focuses on
a sleek telephone unit that it calls "sleek," which can allegedly
cure the texting addict's "craving for mind-blowing" deals.
A phrase in the ad, which saw print before the Holy Week, proclaimed
that "once you're high, there's no coming down."
Mitra said it was clear that Smart wanted to capitalize on the lingo
of the underground drug culture in pushing for promoting its new
products and services.
"The ad treats telephone use and drug use as both hip. It equates the
satisfaction one gets from regular drug use with the satisfaction one
could get from using that telephone. It defines two disparate
products -- prohibited drugs and cellular telephone -- as `in,'"
Mitra said.
He questioned the propriety of having such advertisements, which have serious ramifications.
"Others may find this particular advertisement cute, but they do not
realize that the message it is conveying to the impressionable minds
of our youth is that drug addiction is OK," Mitra said.
He noted that advertisements are very powerful, and that "misleading
ads" are very dangerous, considering the gravity of the illegal drugs
problem in the country.
Mitra urged Smart to junk its "Mobile Addict" ad before it does more
damage to the youth.
"Smart was able to sell nine million telephones in the past and
addicted a nation to texting in the process, without having to ride
on the issue of drugs," Mitra said.

Had a feeling this was coming. Imagine the amount of money used in developing this new ad campaign, in danger of being wasted. And guess who they'll take this out on. Now if they could just do something about the premature campaigning of Pingay.:-)

Smart should change its marketing name.
With re to its plan,it is cheaper and more fun for 4096++ displays.Imagine downloading text news with its coresponding mms pix;UAAP results(green vs blue) with mms;CNN,etc.All of these on ur p800 or a t610 at d cost of 5 instead of 15-20php!may news ka na,may pix pa(i hope it wud be a combination of static & animatd mms).will just wait and see!
