ok, thanks to all the helpful people here ive gotten GPRS and most everything to work on my T300 phone (cingular in los angeles)... i can check out websites, do text messaging, etc... but what id really like is to check my email simply thru the menu>messages>email settings. when i click send/receive it says its connecting, then it says: .....finding server..... server not found. should i try using a different pop account or is my setting wrong? im currently using the pop acct associated to my business. its run by yahoo and the pop server is pop.xxxxxxxx.com. maybe my yahoo acct will work here? any idea? thanks

Yahoo pop3 is by paid subscription. Maybe why. But I cannot connect to my softhome account with free pop3 either despite using their settings confirmed on this site. Ne1 know why? This message was posted from a T300

I use the IMAP4 protocol to the office mail server and when I entered the server names as the ingoing and outgoing servers, it was a hit or miss proposition. So I replaced the names with IP addresses, it's not like the server is going to change, and now it works first time, every time. Might be worth a shot, anyway.

FYI, mail.softhome.net resolves to 66.54.152.7, port 110 for incoming POP3 and 25 for outgoing SMTP.

i found this regarding my yahoo acct... (i get free pop access with DSL). anyhow, i have no way to authenticate the SMTP with the cellphone....

"Please note that if your client does not support SMTP authentication, you will not be able to use it to access your Yahoo! Mail messages."

I would throw this over to the GPRS, WAP, MMS and Email forum. You are likely to get more detailed help there.
Dont worry about SMTP authentication, that isn't going to be your problem.
At this stage I would check that you are using all IP addresses rather than URLs.
