I just got my T68i a month ago and I am thinking about travelling to the USA for a bit. Can anyone tell me what the situation is with respect to roaming? I know it works but what I would like to know is if it simply works and I get charged whatever rate, or if I have to by a "roaming card"... ?

I'm with Rogers AT&T in Canada.

Anyone?

Thanks.

First is your phone unlocked? If so hw long are you staying? Will you be using it alot or just for emerganices? Because the cheapest way if unlocked is to go buy a sim and go pay as you go while you're down there. Have you current # forwarded to a landline or soemthig that will give you the contact number for yourself int he states.

If you wanna just roam prices can get expensive i've heard.... the best way to find out is through your carry rogers. Just check it out ont he site..they also have an 300 minute promo plan in north america or somthing liek that right now which may be more benficail.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, the phone is network locked. It sounds like the issue isn't wether it will work or not, it is more about how much it will be.

As for using it, of course it depends. If it is expensive, I'll just use if for emergencies. If it's cheap, I'll use it more frequently. Something else that bothers me a bit is that I understand that the network pricing /agreements vary from state to state in that some states will ding you $$$ just for the active signal, wether you actually make a call or not. I believe that it was last year or the year before where I was quite sure that this was the case. Not sure if it still is.

Considering today's technology, all I'd like to do is carry my phone and make the odd call without being robbed by the telcos that happen to carry my signal. That said, Rogers/ATT should be a large enough network that there shouldn't be any other telcos involved if I simply drive to Arizona and back. But then again, I can't keep up with what those big telephone companies are doing.

I know that in Canada if I travel to another major centre outside my home signal, if I make a call that is local to where I am at the moment, it will be a local call. i.e. the local roaming numbers are automated.

Anyway, I was just hoping to get some insight as to cost of carrying the T68i into the USA as I may be driving down to Az/Nv. this summer.

Thanks again for the response.

Bill
