> DVD to MPEG conversion problems
Bookmark topic
Hi
I'm trying to create some MPeg files to then convert to mp4 with packet video.
I have successfully created a 10 minute clip of The Graduate which is suprisingly watchable quality.
However my DVD-to-MPeg software I'm using
http://www.dvd-to-mpeg.com , freezes my pc after about half way into encoding (after a few hours)
This is very annoying, and I have exchanged over ten e-mails with their support.
what do other users use to encode DVD to Mpeg.?
The problem is though that the trail version worked fine (short clip)
It only freezes after a while, so if I try other trial versions and then buy the 'full' version may freeze too
I close all programs (except explorer & systray)
I run win me
plenty of hard drive space
P3
tried other dvds
any help MUCH appreciated, as I want to prepair for my 128 mb sticks

Well, you should better use NeoDivx (www.neodivx.org) and then TMPeg (www.tmpeg.com,I think).

I use smartripper to rip the dvd onto my harddrive first. Although I haven't yet found a quick way to convert out movies since I'm only using my old movies that I convert from DivX to mp4 in Virtual Dub.
I got a load from when I used my iPaq and 256MB sd card, I am missing it since a 128 Duo is at present a myth to me. when I get one I'll be getting back up to speed on converting thou.
I think using smart ripper might be a good idea, you need enough sapce on the harddrive for both the ripped dvd and the new file but once you've ripped all that data onto the hardrive you get a faster conversion instead of using the DVD drive. If this is the case for you. You might have a problem with Direct Memory Access on your DVD drive either its on or off and causing problems. If you don't have a big enough hardrive then you should consider getting one becuase once you get it down you'll be ripping dvd's left right and center and having them on the hardisk is the only way to quickly load them onto a duo.
you could try
http://forums.projectmayo.com/viewforum.php?forum=25 this is a pocketPC DivX forum and has a lot of information about encoding, you just need to read mpeg4 codecs instead of Divx 5, etc.
