since you cant use it on a GPRS WAP profile, which from what i gather most people use... what's the point of it?

It gives you full web access, and that's why you need a web account to use it.

so you use your GPRS Web profile instead of GPRS Wap, which if you got the fone Orange it'll be readily setup for just the thing
