It is a manufacturing fault. Do not try to separate the touchscreen element from the display - you would damage it forever.

Great, you get your P800 exchanged because there might be dead pixels, but SE wont even fix my display since there IS a dead pixel plus loads of dust under it. Problem is probably that the pixel is constantly blue, and only seen on dark ground.
God, I'm upset...
Anyone interested in a P800?

how can it be a manufacturing problem if a new dust speck occasionally gets in?

I don't think it's dust specs that are caught on the edge.

I also can't understand why they don't move when I rattle the phone...

I think a phone with dust under the screen can be replaced under waranty, same goes for the dead pixel thingie, ifnot, do it the evil way kill the phone by putting some big (not too big!!) voltage at the connectors on the bottom of the phone.

Easier way to stop your phone from working without risking doing something deliberately malign:

Fill up the internal memory completely then try and run a couple of applications. Voila - your phone will die and never turn on again!

I did this by accident and Orange are kindly replacing my phone by courier tomorrow morning!

Yea i had one tiny speck of dust under my screen, which was annoyin the hell out of me cos it shines super bright when the display light is on. i sent it back to celestica (the SE repair centre UK) and they sent me a replacement p800. i was pretty happy for about 10 seconds until i realised the new one they gave me had an even bigger speck of dust in almost the same place... AAAAArgh!!!
