Hi,
I am just switching from t68i to p800 and am a bit confused - hoping that someone can halp me with my problems: having installed on my pc all the software supplied on the original SE cd (the pc suite with sync, backup etc) I discovered that there was no software dedicated to phone book management or phone setting as it was the case with the previous SE / E phones I had. Am I missing something? Is there a site I can d/l the software (I tried the SE site but found nothing ...).

Hope you will excuse my bothering you with trivialities like this...

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

How are you connected to the PC
because if it was IR or bluetooth then you can send it using the send all function
or direclt send it from the T68 to the P800

No mate, different format here. There is no phonebook management facility in the software, you are only able to backup your phone completely and sync it with your PC.

Not marvellous, but what can you do?

Ok - thanks - that was pretty bad news (( but c'est la vie... Perhaps there is some independent s/w on the market solving this problem....

Two more questions concerning the sync: 1) when I was using the Pocket PC with MS sync software the process was pretty fast (ie full fync of the contact / calendar dbase took a minute or so). Here with the p800 it takes ages (ie. 30 minutes or so). Is something wrong with my usb cradle or is it perfectly normal...? 2) with the ppc sync s/w any change in the outlook (new contact, changed appointment or so) triggered off the sync process but this functionality seems to be missing with p800... Am I correct?

Thanks

it should definately not take 30mins.. my full sync takes about 30 seconds with the usb cradle.. try setting your port speeds (both in the pc and on the p800) higher/to the max. supported.

Bidz - thanks - I followed ur advice and got the sync time down to ca 15-20 mins if some of the elements (like tasks etc) were excluded.... But IMHO it is still way too long time! I would hope that this operation would - as you say - take seconds and not minutes! If u looka at the process the first step is initialization (in each category), then analysis and then the shufflig around the records etc. In my case the initialization for each of the categories take 2-3 minutes at the best, the analysis - some 10 mins and then the shufflig is not that long...

Any clues as to where the problem is and how to solve it... It would be a pity for me to conclude that I have bought some ineffective piece of junk...

what are you synchronising with ?

are you using outlook ? have you tried to synchronise with a different set of folders or a separate installation of outlook on a different machine ?

my sync takes about 1-2 minutes using outlook so there must be something wrong somewhere ...

I had some problems whilst I still had ActiveSync on my machine. You made reference to a PocketPC are you still synching with it becuase that might be the problem. My solution was uninstalling it and reinstalling just the PCsuite for my p800. I got rid of my ipaq anyway so didn't need activesych installed.

Hi - yes I still have the ms activesync on my machine somewhere since I am trying out the p800 ... And the s/w I am trying to do the sync is MSO 2002. Trying a new set of catalogues may be a solution - definitely - but my idea about buying p800 was getting rid of the ppc and actively working with mso on my notebook and p800 in hand. But this implies the regular set of catalgoues at least when it comes to the calendar and the task s- I can have a seperate contacts catalogue (as a matter of fact - have done that already). I will try to get rid of the activesync and pcsuite and then reintall the pc suite.
A small side question - how does the t68i s/w influence the whole picture? Hope I will not have to uninstall that as well ....

Rgds
