I'm choosing between the S55 and T610. I'm currently leaning to S55 but I'm always keeping an open mind about my purchase decision. I have the following questions:

1. Can the T610 firmware be upgraded using your PC? I understand upgrade with the SE Service Center is free but I always like to do mine. Typically, how much will the cable cost or the upgrade software? With S55, downloading the new firmware is free and a data cable comes with the phone.

2. Can the pre-loaded java applications, ringtones, themes, and games be deleted in the T610 to provide more memory space? Can it be done by yourself or you have to send it out to the SE Service Center? I'm afraid the 2Mb memory will not be enough considering that these programs will occupy a larger space now compared to the T68i because of a larger screen resolution.

3. Will there be T610 made in China or in Asia? Normally where will these be built? I'm reading a lot of praises on the S55 on the build quality. All the units are made in Germany and made of high quality materials. No offense to Chinese and Asian manufacturers by the way. It's just that there is a general impression of inferior quality on items made in China and Asia because companies moved there to save cost in the first place and not care much about quality.

Much thanks.

Can't answer all of your questions, cause I don't know them all, but regarding S55 build quality. IT'S NOT GOOD. It seems solid and nice for the first week, but after that the cover get's loose.

I have even heard a few stories about the top buttons falling out of the housing.

THe phones for the european market are usualy made in Sweden, but I do not know if that will be the fact for T610.

The buildquality of the T610 seems very good, at least the unit I have tried. Far better than S55.

I had a T68m 13 months (November 2001 – December 2002) and now I have a S55 since December 2002.

Today, I understand very well why Siemens is number 4 in the top 5 sellers worldwide… and why Sony-Ericsson is not even here…

BTW, between the T610 and Siemens, I’ll go for the Siemens SL 55 (more memory and more colors than the S55…!!)

But the SL55 has a high price tag, no integrated camera, only a 4096 (low resolution) display, no bluetooth, and hideous colour, bad build.

that makes no sense...

anyways.. go for the t610.. it's not what's on the outside (which i think is very nice, by the way), it's what's on the inside.. and besides the memory factor, the t610 has got it.. sure the price tag is a little higher.. but you get your money's worth..

I cannot understand how manufacturers can build phones without Bluetooth today.
