> Connecting P800 to Compaq Laptop thru IR
Bookmark topic
I'm having problems connecting to my phone using the IR on my work Compaq Armada E500 laptop thru the IR port using the Sync Station. I've got no problems with my PC at home using the cradle.
The IR port seems to be always on and detects the phone when it is near allowing me to transfer files, etc. but this process seems to lock the port so that the Sync station cannot use it. In my control panel, I only seem to have the option to enable/disable the device and disabling it just turns it off so Sync Station can't use it either!
Does anyone know how I can get round this, maybe there are some better drivers for the IR port that give me more control?

Try this. At the right corner where all these small iconsare there should be an icon with two arrows and says phone connection link. Click on it youll get a window Link properties. Check that the check box for infrared is checked and when phone is nearby shows also connected. That might be one reason. Maybe. You say you can send files. But can you use also the Phone manager program that usually sits on the desktop with a phone icon. I cleared the infrared tixbox and could send files to phone with wndows itself but not with the Phone explorer.

The checkbox is checked, but the Phone Connection Manager can't see the phone. I think the IR software/drivers running on the PC might be grabbing this port before the phone connection manager can get a look in. I can't find any settings to change this behaviour though.
The IR port is a: SMC IrCC - Fast Infrared Port
Anyone had a similar problem?

I was able to get my p800 to sync to my laptop via by both cradle and ir-da when out and about. The pc will always allow you to do manual transfers but this should not affect your s/w from connecting over the link, try lowering the speed of your laptop ir-da to 115k from 4Mbs, - one assumes you have your p800 irda set to pc link not modem connect, tho i'd of thought that would stop you transfering anyway - tho i can't check myself as i broke my laptop last night

@jigs
At last! Cheers jigs, I feel very stupid now! Even after switching on IR about 4 million times on my phone I had failed to notice the setting above for Modem/PC Connect! Feel decidedly stupid now...
Cheers again
