Hello. I am going to study in Australia soon. Is there any GPRS service for Prepaid users? I am very confused with all the packages offered in Optus and Telstra websites.

Thanks.

I hate to say it but it depends on what you want from a prepaid.

I'm sure they'd be someone out there to correct me, but me thinks there are five providers that provide a gsm prepaid service. AFAIK none of them feature GPRS

vodafone - www.vodafone.com.au
communic8 (telstra) - www.communic8.com.au
optus - www.optus.com.au
virgin - www.virginmobile.com.au
cellularone (vodafone) - www.cellularone.com.au

The cellularone prepaid is the newest one and feature the lowest rate - 49cents per minute - good if you are making calls anytime and anywhere.

If you're gonna be a nightowl and call heaps of people in the night then optus might be more suitable. i don't know the rate that they charge (definately not as cheap as cellularone) but they have a promotion where from 7pm - 7am you can call any Australian mobile for 22 cents for the first 10 minutes.

hope it helps
