I seem to have heard once that in order to be able to upgrade to MMS you need to have the SW-version r2b, can this be right? To me it does not make sense that you need to stick to the line of upgrades to be able to get the next version.

thats wrong... just someone talking shit or someone who have no clue what he's talking about... that would be like if you have windows 98 and you wanted to upgrade to winxp and you needed to install win2k first and then xp...

Great!!! You see I've got a guy at work who did'nt care about getting his T68 upgraded until the MMS was here. I told him that was OK, and then I heard this. Got a bit nervous about having given the wrong info you know. Thanks chaps. I can start breathing again.

While I doubt it to be true, it is feasible that you may need to go through a certain firmware revision before getting the "major" update.

Think of each revision as a service pack rather than a whole new OS (to continue the Windows analogy), so you need to install each one in turn.. I DO think it's unlikely though.

The games changed on R2B and I suspect there were quite a few other changs made at the same time that we haven't seen. Perhaps the phonebook layout changed "behind the scenes" and so on?

I can't see a problem though, as if this is what's going to be required then a service centre will simply flash the relevant update first and THEN put on the MMS firmware afterwards.

I'd just recommend making a backup before you take it there for the "BIG ONE", just in case.

Jonathan

PS. As a comparison, I've now heard that the very latest 6210 firmware means people who have backed up data can't restore it to the new phone. I hope Sony Ericsson don't do the same thing with the T68i update.

Of course there is no need to have R2B before the "final version" with MMS!!

to continue the service pack analogy, you dont need to have SP1 installed to install SP2 or SP3.

I do not believe you need to have R2B to have the big upgrade.
