> T68e? what model is this?

In "What Cellphone" of march 2002 on page 19 is a photo of a T68e, what model is that? any differences there?, all them from Orange, do they use that "e" always? regards.

orange always modify the software on the phone. THat is one of the reasons its taken so long for them to release it on thier network, theyve been modifying the software installed. They will always add menus for thier "services" and other things such as an orange background image.
the e just means its different software installed

Orange don't put in special software anymore as nearly every manufacturer has the support for Orange specific functions from day one.
Motorola are (to the best of my knowledge) about the only company to still need a different firmware load - but they will have this from day one anyway.
The reason for the delay is that Orange rebrand the phone and have to put phones through their own quality control (which you could argue is rather too strict, but that's another story).
They then request a modified phone cover, Orange box and produce their own manual in house which has to go into the box instead of the original.
They then need to have sufficient stock and get enough of this to their distribution centres. By the time they do all this, the chances are a popular phone will be selling out and Orange end up a long way down in the queue.
Finally, they must train their staff on the phone, as well as get the facility to do basic testing and repairs on site too. Remember, Orange are unique in providing Orange care and an extended warranty in house.
Most (if not all?) service providers don't do this and BT Cellnet/O2 and Vodafone don't deal direct with the customer at all. One 2 One have virtually no product testing or quality control, so they can work faster.
Virgin are probably very similar to Orange as they offer a unique package too.
As for the services menu, this is down to the SIM card and the phone will show the menu if the card uses SIM toolkit. This is not unique to Orange.
Finally, I got my T68 last year (R1B) and can confirm that it has 100% support for Orange (Line 2, Voicemail, menu customisation etc.).
For what it's worth, Orange even shipped their early stock without the Orange logo, custom box etc (and R1C software) because they needed kit ahead of the official release early this year.

P.S. People may be interested to know that Orange will be the first UK network to launch the Motorola v70!

In the same way that they were the first to launch the Sony Z7.
However, for the way they've handled the T68 launch, SE and Orange should hang their heads in shame, leaving serious customers hanging on for months.
