> Broken P800 touch screen
Bookmark topic
I had my P800 on vacation when I stuck it in my pocket together with a plastic 35mm film can.
The touch screen shattered.
The phone still worked - at least the display was ok, but entering anything was impossible.
They are charging something like EUR 120 to fix it.
Has anybody else had a P800 touch screen break or become broken?
Seems a bit too sensitive to me.

Basically, it's a BIG screen. No matter what device you're using, common sense would dictate that exposing a large glass surface to undue pressure will damage it.

I had the same damage. Had it replaced for around US$148.

Thanks for all the replies!
I had it insured, I just gotta figure the paperwork out.
I tried searching but as soon as I use the search function for more than two words, the search engine returns the results as an "OR" function, with too many results. Any hints on how to get the engine to respond with an "AND" function?
Fonzki => Did you exert "undue" force on the screen? As Laz points out, there seems to be a lot of these things breaking, and I am wondering if it isn't a problem which SE should be fixing at reduced cost, or otherwise changing the design.
I have had three different palm computers and never broke a screen on any of them. I also have to say that the typical Palm screen is much softer than the P800, and the hardness of the P800 screen I expect will make it last a long time without having to smack a screen protecter onto it. A hard screen is also a very comfortable writing surface because the drag on the stylus is much lower.
On the other hand, if it should last longer, why is mine broke?

Because it's harder. Less "give" and less distribution of pressure.

I to broke my screen i think there is a problem with them, it was just in my jacket pocket in the case and when i got it out the screen was broke where the # key hits the screen. i did not have insurance so was screwed but after speaking to some missinformed people at orange and some false accusations and hours on the phone they replaced it with a new phone.

I've got a stranger kind of damage on my screen, no visible breaks in the LCD at all but intermittently I can't use the touch screen on the lower section with the flip open. If I squeeze the lower part of the sides of the phone around the screen the phone clicks as if I'm making a tap. The most bizarre thing is that it happened whilst I was out and the phone didn't get dropped or compressed in any way.
As I dont want to even pay the excess on the phone insurance I think I'm going to pull the handset apart tomorrow as I get the feeling it might just be a loose connection, wish me luck!

I hv this wired problem, where sometimes with the flip closed, the phone doesnt recognise the key 1, Ok, and the back button. I have to press them really hard for it to work. All the rest of the keys work fine with a soft touch, these 3 have to be pressed a little harder. Would this be a problem with the touchscreen? I took it SE service center, when i upgraded the firmware to r2F , n told them abt it, but they dint do anythin to it, except upgrade the firmware and give it back
