> T610 - A small review

I don't want to mention much well-known facts in this small review.
Startup - An animation with very small sound, we cannot hear it in noisy place. But it is a good design as, for example in the meeting, it is very difficult to be heard by other people.
Display - the colour is quite amazing for a STN screen, or say I think many people will not believe it is a STN screen.
However, under sunlight, people cannot read it very clearly. Any movement in the screen will lead to a quick fresh of the screen which is a little noticeable. It is more noticeable when showing a bar in "please wait", "loading" and "sending", and when charging the phone. It may make our eyes quite tired after a long period of time, especially when playing games.
But it is not a big deal.
Sound - The sound is sharp and loud.
Although its volume is lower than most Samsung models, but it is really loud enough. Any louder may make others (on the train for instance) think that it is annoying. The sound maybe too sharp, but when you use something to block the speaker (earphone), the sound is great. That means, the ringing tone of the phone put inside the pocket should sound better than just hold in hand. I like the polyphonic ringing tone capability in T610.
Joystick - I prefer T300's...... T610's is not as easy to move as T68i's and T300's, I need to use more energy to move and press it. It is not as convenient as T68i's in my opinion.
Keys - They are okay but still need me to use some energy to press them, especially the numberic keys. Entering words are quite unfamilar for me, as quite many things have changed. Entering a star is troublesome! For Hong Kong users, the stroke input is changed to 5-stroke version, which I hate very much! I miss the old cool 8-stroke version......
And I want to talk about the key sound, the "Click" sound is gone, and just remain "Slient" and "Tone". I personally prefer "Slient" in this case as the "Tone" has extremely small sounds, and do not consistent with the speed of the screen.
Java - Sorry to tell you all that, all Java games for Nokia Series 40 I have tried are failed to run in T610
, or run very slowly (really unacceptable). It makes me very disappointed.
Of course there are some Series 40 games are suitable to run in T610, but sorry all games I tried are not.
Mophun - The experience is much better than Java, as it supports full screen and also the games are specifically designed for T610. However, just nine T610 specifically designed Mophun games are available up to this moment. We need to wait, wait and wait for more mophun games to be launched.............
WAP - The experience is not so good. Loading the "Homepage" (no GPRS connection is needed) takes some time to load which is annoying. Also, after clicking one link in WAP page, the phone doesn't show and response anything immediately but just after a few seconds.......... It makes me to wait more time, and confused about whether I have click the joystick correctly....... Also, the title, signal bar and softkey bar wastes quite much space, so not much more things can be shown when compare with T68i.
Earphone - The earphone has enough volume. In noisy place, there is not much problem. However, in quiet place, users can hear hissing very clearly which is really annoying. All T610 buyers in Hong Kong have the same problem.
Stability - Surprisingly, the phone is extremely stable and not easy to hang! Although the phone will become very slow or cannot load correctly in some Java games for Series 40, I still can hold the return key and get out from the "abyss".... Haha
. And in my 5-hour test, no hang occurs. It is very stable.
Speed - Switch on speed is quite fast although stuffs may not be loaded immediately. Scrolling speed is just a little bit faster than T68i's and I don't think it is "very fast". It is just acceptable. It is because the graphical user interface really makes the phone use much more processing power to run. (But no any animation in the user interface) Loading a call list is still quite slow, and no improvement on the call list over old models........ I am really disappointed.
I need to wait so badly to see the time and the number of the call. However, scrolling in the call list is quite fast. Searching phonebook and changing profile are much faster than in T68i, I'm really happy about this.
User interface - Joystick up / Right side key = Internet, Joystick Left = First item in Shortcuts menu, Joystick Right and press = Menu, Joystick down = Phonebook. I don't know why we have two keys for WAP connection...... Hey, we don't need so much! It is a waste...... I even need to remeber "don't move the joystick upwards in standby mode".........
Memory - Around 8XXKB free memory are available for users. Strangely, my friend's T610 has 86XKB at the start up while I have just 83XKB, and our phones have the same built-in stuffs...... The problem I have mentioned before and even given some people to blame that "stop complaining before you have tried the phone!!!" - 15KB photo takes 50KB memory, does exist in my T610 and all Hong Kong users' T610. It is really annoying. However, as the phone does not support Nokia Series 40's Java games, 8XXKB is enough for me now...... Sad...
Overall - I want to play Series 40's Java games on T610..........
And the hissing sound in the earphone is so annoying.....
I miss the sound quality on R520 and T39...........
However, except these two problems, I am quite satisified.
I hope these problems can be fixed soon.
(I bought the T610 at US$433)

Bluetooth, 65K colour screen, 32-chord polyphonic...... All are well known already and I don't need to mention them. I just tried to tell you all what do I feel and think about the phone. That's it, but not to advertise for Sony Ericsson!!!

Yes, it does.
But a ~30KB animated GIF takes ~130KB in my phone memory.

Sorry cannot try it out yet.

Yes, but usable or not depends on the software itself.
If the software are designed for only Series 40,
it may not be able to run in T610.

Great review! That should rub it to there ericsson type minds, slow and not very good design.lol.It's great that these not so positive reviews are coming out so early, looks like the t610 wont be a big success afder all.
