I know that it is a speech compression codec. But is it possible to convert wav to amr, and play it like a melody (heard somewhere)?

AMR = Audio Modem Raiser
It is a chipset built into mainboards which converts digital signal to sounds to be transmitted over phonelines.
You can't use it for anything else, the to plug in a cheap AMR modem and use it for regular dial-up to the Internet.

The AMR codec was originally developed and standardized by the
European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) for GSM
cellular systems. It has been chosen by the Third Generation
Partnership Project (3GPP) as the mandatory codec for third
generation (3G) cellular systems. It supports 8 encoding modes
with bit rates between 4.75 and 12.2 kbps.
About audio modem raisor I know, but it is not only it. I know, that the dictophone in T300 writes in AMR, not wav.

AMR the codec stands for Adaptive Multi-Rate. Audio modem raiser is something else.
T300 supports AMR recording and playback. But playback only happens at normal volume, so you can't use AMR as a ringtone, and you have to hold the phone up to your ear to hear it.

But still I think that it is theoretically possible to make AMR sound as a ringtone like in Sony CMD J-Z 5-7(70). But I don't know if it uses AMR or wav.

You can use this link for information and downloading everything you need to convert WAV and MP3 into AMR.
It really works.

Thanks for the link! Pretty cool, probably was hard to find

. Why don't they make T300 able to play AMR as a melody like in SONY? Does SE actually listen to the customers? It is not so hard, so why don't they? + make it, so we could choose a melody for SMS!
