not possible for anyone to listen to you while your phone is not makin a call. however, it is possible for them to listen to calls using equipment provided by your network and read text messages if they request them from your network provider-but only under certain circumstances!

Doubt the quality would be good enough to hear in most cases anyway. I keep my phone in my pocket so my drug racketeering business remains safe

if a phone is in standby, they can only read your sim serial number, imsi, imei and your location. if they bug our phone it would require
an additional transmitter and the network wouldnt be able to do it for them!

Unfortunately it is possible to activate the mic if the battery is connected! One good reason to obey law!

complete bollox! they cant activate your mic on your phone at all! i work for a uk network and know for a fact its crap. whether it be intentional or not, someone has been pullin your plonker!
When ur phone is in standy, the network (Local Switch/HLR) will show it as IDLE. Meaning that they can locate which cell and segment your using, details of your sim card (sim serial and IMSI only) and the IMEI of the handset.

Im not sure bt SE, but its possible with Nokia 5110, all you have to do is short 2 pins int the connector below the phone, and next time anyone calls you, the phone starts without ringing/ without alerting you, and this way one can listen.
But thats for Nokia 5110 . Dunno bt SE phones.

It would be totaly illegal for the police to tap your phone. Unless you are under criminal investigation the same goes for reading text messages. It is all covered buy the data protection act. (UK)
