> SE USA will NOT upgrade firmware
Bookmark topic
I sent some email to
questions.us@support.sonyericsson.com and inquired how to get a firmware upgrade to my P800. Imagine my shock and surprise when I received this reply:
Dear Valued Customer,
Thank you for contacting Sony Ericsson Online Support.
We do apologize but, unfortunately, we do not offer firmware upgrades.
If you are experiencing any functionality problems with your phone, we
may be able to resolve them through warranty.
If you have any additional questions
PAH! I spend $700 on a phone and the US distributors aren't interested in supporting it via firmware upgrades. To the Rest of the World: you are very lucky.

Also, I think US SE will do firmware upgrades. When I asked them, they said I had to mail it to their location and they would do it for free.
But, what would I actually do? Send it to VirtualDynamix.... Much better and SE won't get your phone back to you for a long, long time...

Virtual Dynamix is a Sony Ericsson Service Point. We can upgrade all Sony Ericsson devices that are upgradable.
There are a few Sony Ericsson Service Points who can upgrade your phone in the US. These service points accept walk-in firmware updates. The customer service should have us in the system shortly.
You may call us at 949.340.9683 for any questions 10am-6pm Pacific time.

I've sent my T68 to SE USA several times for firmware upgrades. My phone was bought from UK when it first came out in 2001. They always managed to send it back within 3 days after receiving it. That's a total of 4 days turn-around time if you overnight it from coast to coast (faster if you're somewhere in the east coast). Anyways, never had a problem with SE US and they also offered the same thing with my new P800 for an R2D firmware.

I had to send my phone to SE repair center in Minnesota (speaker was crackling) and asked them if they would do the RD2 upgrade while they had the phone. It was done and sent back to me within 3 days. The upgrade and speaker are working fine with no problems at all. I have found SE customer suport to be extremely knowlegable and fast. Just my 2 cents.

You are hugely lucky. I sent my P800 back to MN due to it crashing all the time, they sat on it for three weeks, then sent me a replacement phone. With exactly the same R1D firmware as the original.
The only good news is that it hasnt crashed yet, and its battery life is awesome now.
SE USA suck for P800 support. Hugely. Massively.

Wow, you're very near me. Are you open weekends? What P800 revision are you currently upgrading to? What's the cost of your upgrade service?

The subject of this thread is untrue in my case. I sent my P800 back to SE/USA (in MN) on 6/25 for a speakerphone problem and asked if they would upgrade the firmware to R2D at the same time.
The polite rep told me that any phone coming back into SE/USA for warranty repair is always checked for the latest firmware and updated if it is out of date.
My P8 went to MN with a R1D firmware and came back with R2D

I only wish that they would have fixed the speakerphone problem - It came back not working
BUT: if you call SE/USA and ask for *just* a firmware update to the latest, they will not give it to you. It has to come in for a warranty repair for them to upgrade the firmware.
Anyone else had their speakerphone function just die?
