> need help with t6i scam

hi, I have literally just bought a t68i off someone in a paper. When i got it home, i found that it wouldn't ring out or recieve calls. I'm guessing the recent owners had it on contract, not paid the bill, and it has been blocked. When i called them back, they'd shut off the phone. What should or could i do?

did the seller show any proof or purchase? cause it sounds as it's IMEI blocked, meaning it was stolen... have you tested any other SIM card with the phone?

no. and it was in a pay as you go box. The simchip number was different to the box number, and i tried other chips too.

try calling one of the network providers and have them check the IMEI number... most likely they will find it reported stolen.

I think after handing over good money for the phone you have right to have it working, so i suggest you get the imei changed. Not advocating people stealing phones, but hate rip-off scumbags! Although i think you should have tested it more before you bought it! ^_~ ~Eva

well it was my bloke that actually got it. he checked the camera, making sure it was working, and checked overall, but not that. i know it seems totally stupid not to check that, but he was looking to make sure the camera worked more than anything.

To check if it is stolen, call 08701 123123, an organisation called Immobilise who will put you in touch with the right people to contact and find out if the IMEI (serial number) is blacklisted. If it is, it will not work on any UK network. And it will not be able to be un-blacklisted as you don't have the original proof of purchase. I wouldn't recommend changing the IMEI, even if you can find someone to do it, as it now carries a maximum 6-year jail sentence if you are caught!
Basically, you have little choice but to put it down to experience and not buy on the cheap from some thieving git next time.
