Does anyone know if it is possible to use a UK simcard and phone (or a UK simcard in another phone) to send a text from Iraq to the UK?

Apparantly they have a network there called Kurdtel or something but is it working and can it be used with a UK sim?

Thanks for anyones help.

I read about the small region but also read something about an emergency network possibly being installed to help with aid and was wondering if that is operational?

Not much on the net about it because there is slightly more important things going on in Iraq right now.

May not even be any GSM networks in iraq since the US wants to install CDMA networks instead... i think some senator even called GSM a stupid "french" invention or something..

oh, i found some info on the above site about this: http://www.cellular-news.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=783

Thanks hk, you have been most helpful.

Its not really worth me explaining why i want to know about mobile phone use in Iraq because it isn't very interesting...and potentially embarrassing for me!
