I found this on the BBC News website. Does this mean that women really do have more to gossip about than men ?

Women are at the vanguard of the texting revolution in the UK, a survey has found.
According to the Mobile Data Association, 74% of women say they have used text messaging in the last two minutes compared with just 26% of men.

The study also has good news for forgetful spouses, with about half of women saying they would rather receive a text message than a card on special occasions.

A similar number also said that texting was their preferred way of keeping in touch with friends and families.

Premiership texting

SMS mobile phone technology seems one thing that women understand better than men.

Two-thirds of women described themselves as text competent compared to only a third of men.

"Women are more confident when it comes to texting," said Mike Short, Chairman of the Mobile Data Association. "42% of recognise text as a way of sharing a popular interest with their children."

Text messaging shows no sign of abating with monthly figures continuing to rise.

On 11 May 65 million messages were sent, although it is likely that on this occasion they were dominated by men.

It was the last day of the Premiership and football fans across the UK contacted each other via text to celebrate or commiserate on their team's progress.

In March, text messaging reached an all time high of 1.7 billion messages sent during the month.

To add to jowi's post, sms has become so popular here in the Philippines that it has also paved way to a revolution that ousted a president. This message was posted from a Nokia

And in the innovative USA... virtually on one uses sms. Forget ems. I don't know anyone who ever sends mms. We do everything by email. I send text from phone by email too. I get 300 free sms. Use almost none. Get unlimited alerts that i got mail, including lengthy subject line. Btw, wife has never sent sms. Not one! This message was posted from a T300
