Just tried 5 T610's and none of them had hissing. All were from Hong Kong and had R2C R6A Hardware. They also had no "made in" listed on the sticker. This version seems to be the one sold in Indonesia, who don't appear to have the hissing issue as well.
The version with the hissing problem seem to all have R2E R7A hardware with a made in China sticker. Needless to say I bought one.

After trying out the phone last night I noticed that R2C R6A does have slight hissing as well. It can only be heard in a very quiet room though. I even tried the phone in the stores restroom (the owner must have thought I was crazy) and didn't hear it there. The hiss seems to be constant though and not dependent on volume level. The hiss in my T68i is actually louder at the highest volume although it's not there at lower levels.
I bought the phone at PCS Station in San Dimas California.

On a positive note, I downloaded WebViewer from reqwireless.com.wap (only 47k) which allows the phone to view standard HTML web pages. It works great but will quickly use up your GPRS data.

Whatabout dynamic memory? does it come with 2MB? Rumour had it that SE intend to release T610s with 4MB.

All Ericsson's use the same code for accessing service menus:

Where are the directional keys, joystick, or jog-dial directions, and the '*' is the '*' key.

Hardware version is on the top line under the battery. It came with about 900k available memory, but there are games, mms templates, photos using a lot of the total. This message was posted from a WAP device

How much did you end up paying at PCS Station? I'm presuming unlocked. Do they have a Web site?

Oh - what colour did you get?
