Don't get me wrong the T610 is a very nice bit of kit however the new Z1010 looks an even better phone.

The Z1010 has 16mb on board supplied on a Sony Memory stick this could easily me upgraded and is a lot more than the T610.

Next is the dual cameras for video conferencing, the screen is probably going to be better and the quality of pictures will also be improved.

It is a clamshell design therefore the important screen is protected not easily marked and scratch like the T610 and no need for a key lock, it also has an outside display like the Samsungs.

USB connection, bluetooth, Java, Mpeg4 and MP3 player.

Being in the UK I am going to have to wait for the T610 anyway so would I be better advised to wait a little longer for the Z1010? It is also 3g and 2g compliant.

Any idea when this phone will be released?

buy the t610 and sell it when the Z1010 comes out

both are great but z1010 is going to be the king in the Non-smartphone category when it gets released simply dominating all under the sun. It will take alot from the folks at Blokia to try and compete. Because if you look at their first 3g offering it's a bit under par.

SE will rule again. Hopefully.

I dont think we will see the Z1010 in the UK anyway. Its a japanese 3G phone.

SonyEricsson might bring out a 3G phone for the UK, but I dont think they will bother migrating the Z1010.

Get the T610 for now, the 3G service in the UK is pants at the moment.

Where did you get that from? The Z1010 is a dual mode UMTS/GSM handset - not i-mode. It will definately be coming to the UK!

See: http://www.sonyericsson.com/uk/spg.jsp?template=P3_1&B=ie&PID=10048&LM=PSM_V in the Coming Soon section of SonyEricsson's UK site.

Just because 3G is rubbish in the Uk doesn't mean I should not but the Z1010 afterall the functions and features are mouth watering in 2G terms as well and if I did want to try 3G I have the option.

The phone will be able to record like a camcorder and that means you can save video footage and show it to your mates.

The general vibe and bits of information suggest maybe October as being a possible release date. It will be defintely released over here though as a lot of UK mobile sites are advertising it in the coming soon section.

I know information is vague on the Z1010, but will it have a STN, TFT,TFD or OLED screen? Images I have seen of it suggest a better quality than STN.

I agree that the t610 sounds like a great phone and i used to be quite excited about it but after reading all the reviews can't help but think that i won't be gaining much by switching to it from my trusty old t68i although i'm reserving final judgement when i actually get to see and handle the phone myself when it arrives in my country. The z1010 on the other hand wouldn't make of think twice about switching. ;-) This message was posted from a T68i

personally i would go for the T610. AFAIK Hutchison is the only 3G provider in the UK (same as here in Australia). It will be at least 1-1.5 years before 3g services start becoming popular and supported by the bigger networks eg vodafone, T-Mobile. By the time they do come out, and you find a 3g service you are happy with there may well be a better 3g phone on the market. NEC and Motorola are a little ahead of SE in terms of 3G products, and Nokia will not be left behind when 3g phones are needed.

Where I live we can't even get freeview let alone 3G, as I said I am happy to use it as a 2G phone all day long it is just a bonus that it has 3G technology and I am more interested in the features you get with 3G phones, but that doesn't mean I have to sign up for 3G.

What also concerns me a little with the T610 is how scratched and marked it is going to get I have a Samsung T100 at the moment and have got used to the design and believe it is a real advantage to have the screen protected and the keys unlocked. With the Z1010 you get all the features that the T610 has in the better design clamshell and also a ton more Memory.

@malfranco

you might be interested in the motorola v600 or the x70 is you like t610 features in a clamshell...

kinda defeats the purpose of having a 3g phone if you have no 3g service
