Spoke to R's electrics earlier today, and was told that the Vodafone customisations WILL NOT be removed by re-flashing the phone. There is only 'standard' firmware for the T610 apparently, it is not the flash ROM that contains the customisations, but the ROM with the IMEI on it, which is not altered during the flashing process.
Thus, assuming the SE technician was correct, all you Voda users who want to get rid of your icons are going to have no luck. They do have the current firmware available (R1A081), but he's not yet seen a unit and he doesn't even know about the hissing problem yet, let alone how to fix it.
I've got one on Voda PAYT, but i'm going to return it in a few days and get a SIM free one, assuming the hissing is solved. The Voda one I have has a VERY loud hiss, would be unbearable to use as my main or backup phone - lucky i'm just playing around with this one.
