Hi

My I have set my P800 email up with exactly the same settings as my home PC. While it will dial up to my ISP OK, it then says "Connecting to mail.virgin.net" and won't do anything else. I know my username & password are correct because I copied them directly from my PC, and have done this three times now!

Has anyone any suggestions on what might be the problem, or how to get more detail about what is going wrong?

Thanks,
Haydn

Have you ever been able to check your mail from your P800? If not, then simple...your provider doesn't allow outbound POP3/IMAP access, or your E-mail provider does allow external access to their mail servers.

You imply that you are dialing up to your ISP, not your phone service provider.

Have you tried using IP addresses instead of URLs?

I have been having the same problem now for some time. I can download my email from my own websites's pop3 server using GPRS, but when I try using my ISP dialup, nothing happens. In fact, the ISP connects but the browser and the email applications are unable to use the connection.

OH!!! You guys are trying to dial-in to your normal 56K dial-up ISPs??!?!

Sorry, I didn't think anyone did that anymore... you have to tell your GSM provider to activate your data calls service on your line.

GSM phones cannot call into analog modems by default... your subscription must be data-enabled (each service is separate... calls, SMS, GPRS, WAP, Internet access, Data dial-up ISP, and fax...each one must be activated individually by the subscriber by calling your provider)

When you do dial-in the access will be slowwwwww!. Better to use the GPRS.
