> DSC FX-77 camera and T610
Bookmark topic
In case anyone is interested, the T610 is compatible with the DSC-FX77 Bluetooth camera. This is the first device I have found that is actually able to work with the camera (my BT printer, T68i, laptops and handheld all fail!).
This means that there is no real need for users of this camera to buy a communicam to improve the picture quality on their phone. You can send the pictures from the camera to the phone with no problem at all, though pairing is a fiddly process.
I can't seem to get the phone to control the camera, which should be possible (theoretically, I should be able to use the phone as a remote shutter control).
It has to be noted, however, that the camera sends a resized version of the picture. So an image of about 1.5Mb goes across to the camera as 72Kb, so it is fine for Blogging and MMS and stuff, but not fine for actually transferring images from the camera to anywhere else, unless you want smaller images.

thats fantastic, i can't wait to get one!
how do the pictures look on the phone? i usually have to increase the hue saturation and the contrast on an image in photoshop before transferring to the phone for backgrounds or incoming call pics etc
i get the impression that remote control of the shutter and other functionality is only possible after downloading sony software on a pc, not something the T610 would be able to do

Haha!
I am glad someone else found this as exciting as me.
The quality is good, better than with the phone's own camera (no surprise) but the colour balance does vary depending on what light it was taken in. I will try some test shots in a day or so (sorry it can't be sooner) and keep you posted.

Great! A must have for every t610 owner
What is the resolution and number of colors of the pic sent to the phone? Can it be changed?

No. The BT profile determines the resolution for you and sends a "suitable" picture to the phone.
I will do some experiments soon and post the results here.
I know I said that last week, but I've been dead busy!

OK, further to my earlier posts about the DSC-FX77 camera and the T610, here is the information requested...
Original picture (shown here @25%):
Size, 2227x1704, 1.62mB
Transfers to camera as (shown here @50%):
Size 640x480, 73.6mB
All the pictures are condensed down in a similar way, still being FAR superior to the images taken with the built-in camera.
Hope this helps.

hey gilmartin, thanks for putting the effort in for this!
the pics look great, i can see a slight decrease in contrast / saturation in the pics transferred to the phone, not enough to worry about at all. Would you say that sounds right?
Also, are the pics on the phone still relatively large?
How do you think you will use this funtionality?

I think that you are right to say that there is a loss in definition and saturation, but the pictures are very useable in a web context.
Main use for me is that I will be able to transfer pics from my phone to my Weblog from anywhere now.

i was just reading some reviews of the dsc-fx77 and realized that it supports the BLuetooth Imaging Profile which is scarce and when i scrolled to my Bluetooth Svc on T610, it didnt mention this profile. I tot it wasnt usable.
btw, how's the smaert zoom on fx77? is it better than normal digital zoom
