For all those people out there who are interested in the rsssi (received signal strength indicator) and the ber (bit error rate) of the network (where you're receiving the signal), without buying an extremely expensive test phone, it is *possible* to get this info with a standard t68. You need a computer, hyper terminal and maybe a cable (I used a USB to serial cable from the fone data suite that Expansys sells).
Connect to the phone and use the AT command set to communicate with the phone.
The command line required is:

at+csq

It will return:

+CSQ: (rssi), (ber)

where:

rssi:
0 -113 dBm or less
1 -111 dBm
2-30 -109 dBm to -53 dBm
31 -51 dBm or greater
99 Not known or not detectable

ber:
Description
0-7 RXQUAL values
99 Not known or not detectable

There are many other AT commands including one to set the IR port as a motion sensor for the alarm snooze function.
The command for this is:

at*eszs=1

Rather irritatingly I can set the function on (default is off), but the motion detect function doesn't work! Maybe it's not supported in the R1B firmware I've got.
Hope someone found this interesting.

Yeah thanks that was very interesting! I like learning stuff like that, I'll do a few experiments at home now.
