Have any of you read this long term P800 review by Iarla Kilbane-Dawe ?
I would be interested in seeing peoples reaction to the negative points made.

As a normal phone I get pretty good quality and reception. Though I must admit when i call someone on speaker phone they do get a kind of whining sound! Speed dial comment is fair enough, it could have been designed better.
"My only gripe is that the phone flip doesn't do what you expect. Opening/closing the flip doesn't always answer/end a call, but rather switches the hands-free speaker on/off. Except sometimes it does answer/end a call. "
Hmm i dont want the opening of the flip to answer the call and have never experienced it ever doing so or ending one.

I used to use my mobile as a travel clock, switching the phone off before bed and having it wake me up at the appointed hour. But when the P800 is off, it's off - no alarms work. And if you've missed an alarm or task while it's been off, it doesn't tell you.

He has got a point with this statement and it has been widely commented on here. The other side of the argument is why would you want to turn off your phone? You can put it on flight mode if you dont want to recieve calls and still get the alarm. But I can see his Point of view.

What is he reviewing the same phone????? I think the handwriting recognition pretty damn good and will be posting my time in the olypic thread soon

I hate the way the p800 deals with emails too.

Yeah the camera could be a lot better, I think the quality compared with other camera phones is pants. and as for the mp3 player we there's always ogg but it does surprise me that the SE guys did not include a better player from the start.
Overall I think this guy has given a pretty fair review and summed up the p800's great points but also the flaws we already knew it had.

To be fair I only quoted some of his interesting bad points. I didn't mention the good things he says about it which are just as prevelant in the article as the p800's failures. If you read it you will get a balanced view.

Well when you've got a DSL connection always on, on my desk, may as well keep up todate.
Between the 4 forums I get all the answers etc that I've ever needed.
When you've got 128Mb of duo to fill then you need to know what apps are worth buying

Sounds like the guy who wrote the review for the register is using the original firmware, a lot of the problems he mentioned have been fixed.

A thing we rarely see in reviews is the ability to use third-party apps... That bugs be a little since i use ALOT of third-party apps and games...

Yeah these reviewers seem to forget that the majority of P800 owners are quite technically proficient. Therefore we can generally find a decent program to replace the existing software on it. With all this 3rd party software (or firmware upgrade) doing a better job than the original software it makes the p800 much much better.
