has anyone ever had this error?
"Sim Card Error please contact network provider"

Over the last few days I have has this pop up on the screen every now and then and the signal strength goes down to 0 and the green light on the p800 stops flashing. If I turn the phone off then on everything is then fine again.

Any ideas? Could the sim be scratched or something like that?

i think this problem is more network related than sim or phone.

Grr - I've just got this message - power cycle phone and it goes 'Searching' for a minute or so and then pops up the Sim card error msg.

I'm on Orange, and this happened both in Leeds and is still faulty in Huddersfield.

Surely given the range I've travelled its unlikely to be a network issue?

I've removed and replaced the Sim to no avail, anybody any other suggestions?

ive seen this before with nokias which display "CONTACT SERVICE PROVIDER" and wont let you do anything. its usually where u need a software upgrade on the phone due to the network provider doing something to it.
this could have been where someone has reported a stolen sim card and quoted the wrong sim card number and got yours!
contact your network provider to see if there is anything wrong with your account first before you go playing with the phone!

Working again!

It was faulty from around 5pm till at least 8pm last night - then I just left the phone off intending to take it into a shop this morning - switched it on just now and its all a-ok!

All I can think is that possibly the air conditioning in the car was too cold (my phone is mounted right over a vent) or something.

Something to bear in mind when I move car in a couple of months!
