Is it possible to receive (or send) fax documents on the P800? I have my mobile office activated with Globe (PH)

In the UK (and I suppose in other countries where they operate) Orange offer a fax service. They give you a fax number along with your phone. When someone sends you a fax it is stored in the same way as voice mail. You receive a text message in the same way that you get a voice mail alert. You dial into voicemail and input a number to redirect the fax to - so you can divert it anywhere (office, hotel, home etc).

I used to have a Nokia 9210 which could send and receive faxes directly on the phone. I read (probably on this forum!) that the modem in the P800 was not a fax/modem - just a modem, so it physically is not capable of sending/receiving faxes directly to/from the phone.

Thought that would be the major wrench when I sold by 9210, but I've not missed the outgoing faxing once.

So the bottom line is this: If your provider cannot provide this service check out if someone else can. At least that way you'll be able to receive faxes in a limited fashion.

If you're okay with a US phone number, there are a couple of companies in the U.S. (efax.com and callwave.com) that offer free fax-to-email services. They give you a fax number and anything faxed to that number is emailed to you. I think efax uses a proprietary format but callwave is TIFF or JPEG, so you might be able to view its attachments on the P800. Not the same as being able to send or recieve directly from the P800, but it's the closest I've found.

@mbailey sathomasga thank you for the infos.. so unlike the Nokia 91/9210s, the P800 doesnt have fax capabilities *sigh*

Forgot to clarify that mobile office on my cellular service provider means, having voice, data and fax. And the data and fax have different fone numbers from my voice line.

Btw I did try sending a fax to my cellular's fax line on my P800 but unfortunately all I get is a fast busy tone .. and since the P8 was right beside my PCs monitor, I did notice that the monitor's screen shook for a second while I was trying to initiate that fax call, meaning it did try to receive the call though I assume P8 rejected it
