I'm taking my T610 on the 6th as Vodafone are getting there new stock in, The new stock has the new software on it.

Right I'm not saying this is true or not but the sales assistant said that the new software will remove the hissing on making and recieving calls. Remove the ring tone increase.. She said that it will make the phone run a little faster..

So I'm looking forward to getting the replacement phone on Friday to see what the new software does.., I'll let you know when I get it.

Can`t I upgrade the phone without actually changing it against the new shipment?

I mean can the store upgrade it?

News from TheRegister :

Sony Ericsson has found the defect which caused the audio problem in its new handset T610.

"We have fixed the units which at present are still in the factory and all units leaving the factory have been corrected," says Per Alksten at Sony Ericsson. "Those who already bought a T610 can have it fixed, but it has to be sent for repair since the necessary adjustments cannot be made by the vendors."

He added: "Those who send in their handsets for repair will have to wait 2 to 3 weeks before it is returned. Information about how the handsets are to be repaired has been sent to our repair shops and vendors."

A temporary solution suggested by Per Alksten is to use the hands free with the handset. When using the handset the noise disappears. "It is very regrettable that this has happened to our customers since we of course want to sell a quality product to our customers, a product they will appreciate."

Our story has prompted a re-iteration from Peter Bordor at Sony Ericsson: "We are NOT recalling the T610 anywhere. There's been a slight issue with background noise in some of the phones, however it's fixed since two weeks by a slight adjustment in the manufacturing process, so all the new units are just fine. If consumers should have any queries, they will get support from their regular service channels."

We'd just like to point out that this is pretty much exactly what our story said: "We are aware of a problem with some early models," said a publicity official, "but it was a very small glitch on a very short production run, and that problem has been eradicated. We certainly aren't recalling them; we're just replacing those models where users find the hiss excessive."
