Prices will always be high when they are first released and will stay the same for a few months, until competitors bring out new handsets/accessories. Its all marketing... makes sense.

Also, then they bring out new phones.. so they will lower their prices....

Yeah...it's all marketing.

Besides, the price drops aren't proportional to the quality of the phones. In fact, I'd even say you get a better deal with those phones when they lower the prices!

Prices change due to intertemporal price discrimination which is economics jargon. It basically means that different groups of consumers are charged different prices depend on how price sensitive they are.

Initially, for any product, there will be a small number of consumers which would pay high prices to get the first or latest product. Then prices drop partly due to the market realising that the first group of consumers have been satisfied and its time to hit a target price for the next group which is more price senstive so prices fall.

Other factors such as excess supply or lack of demand will also destabalise prices. New market substitutes be it from the same or rival company will also destabalise prices.

I wouldn't be surprised how much they drop the prices, do you know how much it only cost to produce these phones??? You wouldn't believe...

Here in Azerbaijan, we sometimes get the product a month or two before you guys (didn't happen with T68i though ) The 8850 came out here for 3000$, the price dropped to 1800$, then 1100$---500$, it stayed like that for about a year and now it's 300$...

Same with T28, first is was 1200$ !!!!!!
I bought it for 600$ and now look, you get it free in a McDonald's Happy Meal

Those people that buy it first and spend all the money can say: Well, only I have this phone! Then when everyone gets it, that person usually already has another...

Same thing will happen to T68, but not quite yet... I hope...
