From: http://www.clubsonyericsson.com/en/products_t610_review.htm

Comparing the Voda T610 to their review I see the following things voda buggered up customising the phone.

[1. Normal] There are many predefined items that CAN be deleted, especially ringtones and images. All these only take 130kb of the dynamic memory

[1. Voda] Voda has added extra images and stuff that can't be deleted. These take up more memory.

[2. Normal] In status screen, the right soft key leads you to a useful menu with commonly used options. Thus for example, keylock is easily activated and deactivated by pressing "right" key and then "*" key

[2. Normal] Right button takes you to Voda live. The shortcuts screen in the normal phone looks like the one on the T68i with useful stuff like post note and turn on IR. On the Voda one you only have turn on silent and turn on keylock. Annoying as some of those options are useful.

[3. Normal] Also, pressing and holding "right" (joystick right) opens the Call/Find contact screen

[3. Voda] This just takes you to the mainmenu of 12 icons. Also very annoying as that was a useful feature.

Those are the main things I can see that Voda has buggered or screwed up. I wouldn't mind as much if I could undo some of them. I understand them customising the phone to some point, but I don't get why they have done it to such an extend to bugger up some of the phones good points. Like number 3 above.

Bastard swine dogs. . Aaah well. I'll be first on the list when some works out how to reverse the Voda rubbish.

is this legal? they should be penalized.
they are messing up the phone!!!

SE should do something to prevent this kind of things from happening.

It's legal. SE I am sure authorises the changes by Voda. You are entering into a contract to buy the phone from Voda. They can do what they like to the phone. You're choice is to buy the phone from them or not to buy the phone from them.

i can't imagine SE being at all happy about it though! but i definately agree that if you accept that Voda are subsidising the phone, you have to accept their branding etc, or pay more for a clean one

I am sure SE are happy about it. I am sure Voda signed a contracted with SE and possible got SE to do the changes. This means Voda will push the T610 etc. This did not happen with out SE's approval, and am sure they actively pushed for the deal.

the bottom line is sales and SE will get these i guess

but all the effort to design a nice user interface and buttons with useful functionality is lost, and customer satisfation is lost

haven't heard any one say how much they love Vodafone Live! yet.

I too have a vodafone 'customised' phone, and whilst I'm happy with it, I think by changing the whole icon set was a step too far. Is there a vodafone email address we can use to register our comments. Best try and get one email to use so that we can put our message across in the most efficient way.

Cheers,

Lee

Well I got a Voda T610 last week and took it back on Sunday under 14 day return citing my main reason for returning it as the way they have bu66ered up the phone. Doubt that would have gone much further as they didn't even ask me to fill out a form (although the sales guy might have written something down I'm not sure).

Maybe it's worth putting together some sort of petition for Vodafone - may not help with this phone (although conceivably they may consider reverting to the SE default menu icons for a future firmware update) but may help them rethink their policy for future phones. I doubt I am going to be the only one taking back my Voda T610 as a result of their OTT approach to customisation. Do Voda have an equivalent of Orange's exec office?
