Okay, I know there is a poll on the homepage and it has been brought up here many times but I want to reopen a fresh debate.

I have had my p800 now for about 3 months and have so far just used it with fip on. I am considering taking the flip off to see how I go and which I like best.

So what are the advantages/disadvantages of the flip? I have a few but please expand:

Flip On:
-Protects some of the screen
-Easy to dial numbers (do you have to get the stylus out to dial numbers if the flip is off?)

Flip Off:
-Looks pretty cool
-Less weight hehe
-screensaver is not full screen
-How do you use speed dial one handed?

Any more? It just seems to me taking the flip off has too many disadvantages. It would be great if you are just using it as a PDA but not if you want to use it as a phone as well.

In my experience, the flip-on pros get nullified if you buy a brando and use the virtual-flip. I seem to be able to dial via the virtual flip with no problems using my thumb. My problem with the flip is that it reminds me of those cheap face-off stereos you get from halford, but thats probably just me

hehe, yeah I know what you mean mate. I do have a brando and so suppose I could thumb press the keypad but would be interested if there is a one handed way of doing things with the flip off. Ideally I dont want to touch the screen at all to do any phoning??????

I have the flip off my self, I dont really like the flip when its closed, so it was the first thing I did with the phone Its all pretty easy to use without the flip and it makes it that bit slimmer =] Also you can have flip open screen savers =]

Taking of flip-open screensavers, does anyone know how to stop it clicking and the light coming on whenever the screen is locked in HandyDay or Tracker? I normally lock the keypad via the virtual flip because I imagine the light coming on everytime the screen gets touched in your pocket murders the battery.

Personally, I like having the flip on, if for no other reason than I get the tactile response of hitting the keys. It makes it much easier to dial since you do not really have to verify that you pressed the numbers..

If I could get the tactile response without using the flip though it would be off in a second, as the phone does look much better without it!

I use my phone with the flip off, and i don't use the virtual one either. I find it just as easy, if you just use the stylus and the jog-dial. After all, you don't need to answer, or to make a call riding a motorbike or skydiving or something. I would recomend this to all of you who're equipped with two arms

one for the phone and one for the stylus..

I hate the flip. It really makes the phone look dumb. I also like the virtual flip better. No problem dialing with my thumb...

W/o the flip...

-speed dialling is a lot cooler since the 9 speed-dial bottons are the faces of the people.

-my phone looks cooler
