My phone crashed during an SIS install and I had to reset it. When I turned it back on all my contacts were gone! Anyone else experienced this?

I heard a rumour about a fake cracked sis doing the rounds that forces a hard reset, could be something like that, but I don't know if I should believe it, because if the API's existed to do something that nasty, then it would probably be common knowledge by now.
