> Bluetooth USB adaptor to P800 range
Bookmark topic
I am trying to work out which is the best Bluetooth USB adaptor to get for use with the P800.
What USB adaptor do you have, does it work and is it reliable? If so, what is the maximum distance you can get from the PC before the P800 looses the connection?
TIA

Ive got an MSI BT dongle, only cost £25, bargain… it says it has a rang of 200m in open ground, the only thing that lets it BT down is the P800 it only has a range of 10m or so

I use the BT to surf the web on my P800 using Opera, I can happily wander around the house and garden without loosing the signal but have problems at work with all the electrical equipment and walls in the way, but the dongle is ace works very well its just the range of the P800 that’s the problem (not that I’m knocking the my P800, I love it!)

Where did you get that from for £25???
I bought one from Carphone Warehouse when I bought my phone, but the range is pants. I might just use that one at work and then get one of these 200m ones for my home......

I got the CSI BT dongle, £25, from ebuyer, I'm fairly pleased with it, although the software etc is quite buggy, keeps hanging the BT. The dongle it self has quite a long range, but the P800 doesn't really have much at all.
Mine works in the garden, but not in the living room, although, the computer can find the P800 pretty much every where, but the P800 just can't reply to confirm the connection

(
for those with the CSI dongle, how do you initiate the connection, I use the 'virtual serial port', but it just seemed a bit strange to me...

Thanks for the replies. I understand that the P800 is a class 2 device which gives it the ~10m range. Assuming the USB adaptor has more power than the P800, the range will be limited by how good the receiver sensitivity is on the USB adaptor (it has to be better than the Bluetooth spec).
I still don't know if the P800 supports Bluetooth's power control messages, as I think this could also limit the possible range when used with a class 1 USB adaptor (if it has good receiver sensitivity).
So, I need your real world experience, keep the replies coming!

I just drew a nice picture of my house, and where it works and doesn't work. but I'm at work at the moment, so I can't upload it anywhere to show you
I'll try it when I get home, then all will become clear!

let me see if I got this straight.
The bluetooth dongle can find the P800 in a range of 200 meters but to use the bluetooth to surf the web you need to be 10 meters from the dongle? I want to use the internet everywere in my appartment, is this possible?
nlhall wrote "I can happily wander around the house and garden without loosing the signal". does this mean that you can surf the web or just that you get signal on your computer?
Is it worth buying a dongle that has a 200 meter range? Can I use it up to 200 meters or just 10?
Please help me!

I got the same question as mr_arrow. No use buying a 200m range dongle if I need to be within 10m.
