I have looked everywhere but I cant find a answer anywhere.
What is the icon marked with the red arrow used for?

It is only an icon for the menu. It is supposed to indicate that the menu is there like the Calls and More menu...

Like the softkeys, the Joystick (pressed in) has several functions depending on the situation.

Hence the middle icon indicates what the Joystick press will do.

When on the home screen (pictured above), the little icon shows that pressing the joystick will go to the "desktop".

Sometimes the icon looks like a floppy disc. Press the Joystick to save (the photo), etc...
