(1) Can someone please tell me if you can connect to the actual internet (HTML) via normal talk-time or do you have to use GPRS?

(2) If you can connect via normal talktime is it very slow or is it tolerable

(3) Again if you can connect via normal talktime how do you ? When you access wap you have a dial up number and you connect to your wap provider. On a pc you also dial-up your isp and get connected how do you do this on your P800 who do you connect to for internet access?

Thanks in advance. These are the questions which will finally make me decide to go for a P800 (again, had one b4 and sold it in 2 days without doing much ! - silly me ) or a T610 !

1) Yes I can browse the internet over dial up and not gprs and use my free minutes it is a bit slower though. You cant use opera though, you have to use the internal browser, which is pretty good anyway!

2) tolerable

3) You just select dial up instead of gprs as your prefered connection. in yor internet account on the p800

It is just the usual Wap Number that was provided by orange when I bought the phone. To test I tried going to the bbc news site in gprs and then went to teh same URL via dial up and I could access teh same page fine with the internal browser.

I called Orange and they said I can use my free minutes for this as well. And I think it is free for 3 months anyway

My pleasure mate.

I am sure other people will post their own opinons on this so check back and see what everyone else thinks as well. It will all be useful info

I would highly recommend getting a p800! The bugs are minor, it is a quality phone.

The P800 can surf the net on both circuit switched dial up and GPRS

for CSD dial up, you can use any ISP you want, Freeserve, AOL etc, just create a new connection and use it.

You can use this with Opera with no problems.

With GPRS you can surf the net using Opera and WAP using the inbuilt browser.

No you dont need to load the software. When you choose dial up and not gprs you will find that you have to enter the following information:

Password:
username:
Phone number:

have a look in the.....internet accounts, select yout account and then select dialup and then you will have to enter the following three, which is above.

good luck!

Oh and buy the way: when using your dial up with freeserve I think you said, you pay for hours with freeserve AND your call with you mobile! so it is somestimes cheaper(depending on what you pay on each one) just to use GPRS!
