Hiya, a new poster here.

I've done a bit of a search here, but can't see this mentioned in detail anywhere... Basically I want to use my P800 as a modem for my laptop.

I've got it working via infra-red, but only at 9.6k a second.
I've got bluetooth working, but I can only seem to transfer between phone and laptop, not use it as modem. (when I am connected via bluetooth the laptop doesn't "see" the GPRS connection, even if I manually start it up on the phone.)
Tried it on the cable connection. When I go through the processes to use it as a modem, it says a phone isn't connected in the wizard, even though it is!

Any help or hints/tips to try would be very much appreciated, as the GPRS connection etc was one of the main reasons I bought the phone in the first place.

Many thanks!
Nick

There are settings in the phone which define wether the phones connections methods are to be used for a modem or for PC connection purposes.

Not quite sure about P800, but on my T68i I had to set up a bluetooth modem (using bluetooth modem driver provided with SE software) on the PC, with the correct modem init string (was entered by driver as default), and the following telephone number: "*99***1# ". It works on my network.

Your BT device should have drivers which enable dial-up networking through both dial-up and GPRS. I use 3com pc card.

The connection manager of 3com created automatically BT connections from the available ones. It works alright for me for GPRS connection.

Anyway - if it is not automatic - when making new connection you should see in your available modems a BT one, which you could use.

Just to update, last night I got the bluetooth nearly working, in that I managed to get a bluetooth dial-up connection "working" (in that it connected). I used the init string from you Wrath000 which seemed to do the trick.

The only problem is that with it connected, I load up a web browser and visit msn or whatever, and it's not connected. Will have to do more investigation again I guess!

Many thanks for the help so far though...

Remember that you have to set up the Internet Explorer to use the connection in the "Internet Options" / "Connection" tab
