sorry guys. i moved the thread by accident to the archives and it's only laffen who has the right permissions to move it back here.

Anyway, last post from vwbeetle

But the fact is, there are sites they (globe) admittedly blocked.

Q:may ebidensya ba?
A: you can still visit the esato wap site (among those blocked) using a wap browser over a different net connection. fromt this, we can discount the error is due from the site (or it's host).

Q:paano nila ito ginagawa?
A: Globe is our internet service provider. Think of them as the one who controls the flow of water down a hose - the one by the faucet.

Q:ano ba ang nakasaad sa kontrata natin with Globe re WAP over GPRS service?
A: wala. they never promised that it will remain free or that they would continue providing access to any site.

I think that's enough to start some sparks.

(sorry talaga sa thread)

@gows - they admit that they blocked certain sites? what i wanted to learn is how this "blocking" works in technical terms. we can start from there and inquire why access to the web via gprs has been restricted in this way. and why this remains the case even if one is paying for internet access. its an interesting test case for litigation (if you guys are so minded). it may also be an avenue to have media coverage (paging jwblue). at the very least its a not so lame excuse to get together and drink.

@* as far as i know, walang malinaw na contract for GPRS service. also for it's being free. dun sa "FREE" GPRS, they have the right to scrap that (charge us)

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE "RIGHT" TO CHOOSE WHAT WAP SITES WE PREFER TO BROWSE?

tangalin na natin yung free issue, kasi they can call it off whenever they want it too. dun na lang tyo sa pagblo-block ng esato.

i still suggest we raise this concern to SE phils. or SESS (in case they decided to do something, they will be our biggest ally)

SE/SESS will be the front, PSEUG will (if it can) will be at the back sana lang . . . sana lang.

The Globe CS reps don't admit any "blocking" being done and only point to a system upgrade that they say has affected access to certain sites, which they assure is only temporary ( we wish!!!). while contemplating any legal or media action, the best thing we can do as an immediate measure is to barrage their CSR's with calls (as some have already done) and make them realize that they just can't treat their clients like that.
If their aim is to charge us for GPRS, they should just come out and say so and close their free GPRS gateway without resorting to wap site restrictions which smacks of censorship and as paying consumers is totally unacceptable.
Esato as a whole is a wholesome site and is a big help in answering people's questions about telecommunications issues that their CSR's usually know nothing about. As such censoring or blocking it isn't rational and borders on the ridiculous and insane.

Epekto ba ito ng pagka-pangalan sa pinoychitchat? Ganito ang mga banat noong araw dito e. (oo nga pala, bumista kayo doon sa site. Bagong retoke na. http://www.pinoychitchat.com).

Now, back to topic.

Issues:

re PSEUG - (more accurately, the SE Mobile Ph) Up to this time, this remains a half-baked idea (as far as I am concerned.) It's not a legal entity and after voting for a name for the proposed organization, nawala na ang mga tao.

re "blocking"
Doctabako is right. The CSR didn't use the word "block", they use the term "un-affiliated" sites. Which really is a form of censorship, which they have no business of doing.

It's not their business to do the choosing for us, they can make any site an affiliate, but they should not prevent us from making a different choice.

As far as I know, the "blocking" only affects WAP users. Using your GPRS as a modem will still allow you to access Esato. The difference here would be the port by which you access esato. Standard http requests (ie using phone as a GPRS modem) let's you get to esato, but using the WAP ports will prevent you from doing so.

re service contract
GPRS is categorized under others, in the VAS category. Sinulat pa nga e. But nothing is mentioned about rates, minimum quality of service, or anything about restrictions to access any particular site.

But globe published an FAQ re GPRS. Here are some relevant snippets:
(PM nyo ako if you want to know where i got it. Italicization mine)

Ladies and gentlemen, we know that ESATO is a public forum. I'm offering a part of our site where we can discuss this matter privately, online. Access will be restricted to those of us who know each other.
