How can you find out the firmware on T610?

And the * is pushed in? If so then with or without * this does not work on my T610. If use those menu options I just whizz around my menu.
I am missing somethingperhaps?

It will appear to be randomly moving around the menus but on the last key press it should pop open the service menu. Perhaps you are slightly mis-directing a couple of the joystick movements? Just give it a couple of goes - should get there in the end. It is just each joystick movement/keypress one after the other.

the * is the "*" button on your keypad, not any pressing of the joystick!!!

You should find it's R1A081 anyway - doesn't seem to be more than one public release out yet. More important with regards the hissing etc is the hardware revision, and possibly the manfactured date. Look on the IMEI label under the battery for those, R3A is the desired hardware model (most are R2A-R2E+ currently), and 03w23 or later (week 23 of 2003) is the earliest desired manufacturing date.

Can I uppgrade the firmware by myself LEGAL? Or do I have to bring it to a servicecenter?
How can I check my GPRS usage?

not sure how this reply fits this thread but to answer...
generally speaking you should take the phone to a service centre for upgrades but currently there is no new firmware for the T610. For ways of doing it yourself look at recent threads regarding removal of Vodafone and Tmobile stuff.
GPRS usage can be checked by going to (in the menu) calls, time and cost, data counters. In here you can see last session and total data.
Finally,
here is the T610 support page where you can download manuals, drivers etc!
