I've been reading this forum for quite some time and can't help but notice how many ppl nag about this non-existent app.
Here's my opinion, for what it's worth.
I wont get technical but if you just disregard the fact that the cam on the phone has a quite lousy picture quality, consider that it takes several seconds for the phone to store ONE single picture at the lowest quality / resolution of which you need atleast 10-15 PER SEC to get a sort of fluid video. In addition there are some other calcualtions that has to be done on the fly that are not needed when shooting one and one pic and that would slow the process further. You'd get a bad slideshow at best and I guess that's the reason the SE dind't include this in the 1st place.
If you *really* need this functionality then get the cheapest dig cam you can find that can record vids. Your P800 can still do MUCH more than a comparable Nokia

and if you do get a cheap digi cam and you MUST have the movies you make on your P800 then its not very difficult to capture it to your PC, mp4 the files and stick it on your P800!

When the focus on recording eg. would be towards person-2-person communication, then preparing a lil "MMS- video" would be fully sufficient to tell my friend something like "watch this, isnt it cute?" and attaching my 10sec. 80kB MP4 movie to it.
It is not about recording minutes or hours. Most p800 users wouldnt have bigger MS DUO but live with that stick capacity as sold with the device (not every p800 user is a "power user" as many n this forum - and, i also would favour more smaller videos compared to a big one...
lil videos for person to person communication will come. they will make the most traffic between devices, like sms and mms already do today. "content-2-person", i.e. news broadcast, infotainment etc. will be less important to my opinion.
and, its like in a normal tv advertisement: you can try to sell your product resp. convince people to buy it within the first 10-20 secs. - but 1 minute is too long...

as long as there is hope I can't forget about recording..i mean if I had the knowledge to I would write the program my-self I don't care if it takes 3 weeks of no sleeping...but I still have hope...without hope what would we live for

Hope is important, i totaly agree and having such an app would of course be cool and useful. But what i'm trying to say is that the phone doesn't seem to be capable for that specific task. The 80kb mp4 that was posted here doesn't prove anything until the real app shows up. I could make a similar recording with no probs, using a tiny cam beneath / near the phone. You'd never notice it..
I'm just saying that there are other existing solutions that will let you do this same thing, a bit more time consuming but far better result in all aspects.

Of course it can be done. Look at some of the high-powered things that the P800 can already do:
1. Play back video and also show live video through the Camera app
2. Play Doom (throwing a lot of video around)
3. Record sound
4. Play back wav and mp3 files (requires compresson/decompression)
You only have to compare the technical specs of the two phones to know that the P800 is superior (not that there's anything wrong with the Nokia, for that matter).
The P800 was a first generation smart phone, whereas the Nokia is a phone with a video app. Nokia had less to get right on release. SE had a lot more to deal with. Look at the number of apps that are already available or currently in beta.
The same applies to any technology. Playstation games were OK when the console launched, but compare them with titles launched today and you will see a stark difference - this is because programmers have learnt how to get more out of the hardware.

The phone it self is more than powerful enough but i'm not sure that the memory interface is. Why does it take that long to store one picture of som Kays? Is there a purpose? It also takes time to open aplications that are tiny, and that's from RAM! On another device even a HD would be quicker. I'm sure this would have been optimised by SE if only possible.... Lets face it, the access time is way too slow.. the execution time is exellent though!
I've used other pda's so i'm not only guessing, and i do still love my P800. :) Just trying to be realistic here

Who ever said that its taking the entire "paused" time to actually store the picture. Every digital camera leaves the picture taken on the screen for a second or two, why would the P800 be ANY different?

Because on my phone that time varies noticeably with different resolution. It doesn't seem to be preset. But of course if the resolution is small enough it could come down to an acceptable delay.. Not sure how visible the contents would be though.
Don't get me wrong. I wish this app will come, i'm just not overexited, and i've tried to explain my reason.
