We are in a great position guys. Here is my story:

About a year ago I got a Siemens SL45i MP3 Phone on a Years contract with T-Mobile for free and I think I paid something like £15 a month on the contract

After a year I got bored with the SL45 and was looking around for another phone. I saw the P800 and really wanted one but they were just too expensive! I noticed SL45's were going for £100 on ebay so I ended my contract with T-Mobile and sold the phone to some guy on ebay for £105. I could even transfer and keep my same number

I got my P800 for £117 on a years contract with Orange £30 p/m for the first 3 months and then down to my usual £15 p/m (this was just before the price of the handsets went up)

So the way I see it is even in a years time I am probably going to get over £150 - £200 for my P800 on ebay which will pay for me to get the newest best phone on the market at the time! I sign another years contract and there you go.

Then the next year I do the same.

Any of you guys got the same idea

With my contract I pay £3 a month and am guaranteed at the end of my contract to get the latest handset for free!!!! Or so they say… mmm!

With everyone contract I have ever been on at the end of the year I get the phone and can do as I wish with it.

I would be very suprised if a p800 would sell for more than £100 in June 2004, because the kind of people who want that type of phone will be only iterested in 3G handsets, the p800 is not 3G compatible will be a well out of date in 12 months.
Also it sounds good to say what you pay for a phone but to get a true price, you MUST ad up ;

In your case £342
Because in order for the handset to be YOURS £342 is the minimum amount you are obligated to hand over to your provider.

You are not entirely correct. As I recieved up 60 free minutes and numerous text messages that I used every month included in the £15 p/m tariff price. you also have to take that into account when working out the price of the phone. In my view that wipes off much of the monthly contract fee.

And maybe the P800 will be out of date in 9 months time (when my contact ends) But I am pretty sure the SL45 was out of date 3 months ago when I sold it for £105. There is always a market for a piece of kit like the p800 with a large memory card. And I will take a bet with anyone now that I get at least £200 for my p800 when I sell it.

EDIT: Well Maybe £150

epscilon - Thats pretty much the same system I use for my phones. I haven't paid anything for a mobile for about 3 years, and I change my phone every 3-6 months!

As an extra bonus, whenever my contract is up for renewal, I take a lookat whats selling well on eBay, and then compare that to how much I can get it on upgrade/new contract. I'll pick the phone that will make the most profit and stick it straight on eBay.

Its a win-win situation. I'm forever having people asking me why I pay £300 for a SIM-free phone,but they dont realise how well the system works.

I don't know how we ever lived without the Internet!

The thing is I don't really think about the contract cost because I would pay that anyway whatever! The only price I think about is the actual price the phone costs!

Win Win Situation is the perfect way to describe it
