> Has anybody Converted from Nokia to T610

Hi,
If ther is anyone who has converted from Nokia coloured screen phones, please let me know how has it been. I have a Nokia 7210 and am contemplating on changing to T610 but am worried about:
1. Quality of screen- Read that it is bad under sunlight and does not look as good as nokias even with more colours...
2. Slow T9 text inputs
3. Hissing problems
4. Camera not as good as that of 7650 and others

1. Screen is about the best I've seen, true under harsh sunlight it can be difficult, but so are the colour nokia's for the most part.
2. T9 is much improved in t610 (although t68i was getting there in later firmware), not quite nokia speed, but not enough to worry about, and certainly does not get in the way (although I am strugling to get used to the space being moved.....)
3. Hissing fixed on all newer handset's, most in shop's now/soon will be the revised hardware (R3A). not a concirn anyway if you get a snake phone take it back and swap it!
4. Camera is only QVGA true, but the image is clear, well balanced and much better quality than almost all the nokia's for image, even if it cant do 640x480, but hey it's a phone, get a digi camera if you want to take photo's!
Just my personal observations. I am completely (or will be when my shop get's new hiss free one in for me) satisfied with my T610, and wont part with it until Z1010

1. The T610 has a great screen. The colours are much brighter and more vibrant on the T610 than on the Nokia screens. The Nokia 4096 colours screen are not even close to the quality of the T610 screen. Another important thing is that the refresh rate of the T610 screen is much faster than the Nokia 4096 colour screen on the 7210, 7250 etc. You don't have to worry about that. It can be a bit hard to view under very bright lighting conditions (but so is all STN based colour screens like the screen on the SE T68i, Nokia 7210, 7250, Siemens S55 etc). If you are using the phone in sunlight make sure that the sun hits the screen directly, then it is visible.
2. The T9 SMS input is quite fast, maybe a little slower than Nokia, but fast enough so at least I can't type faster.
3. The hissing problems is a defect which SE fixes free of charge and is fixed on newly manufactured phones, so it shouldn't be a problem anymore.
4. The camera isn't as good as the one on the Nokia 7650, 3650 or SE P800. These three phones uses 640x480 reolution cameras while the T610 uses a 288x352 resolution camera. The same resolution as Nokia 7250. With that said the camera is good enough for pictures that will be used on the phone and sent to other phones. They are also decent for sending pictures as an email attachment. No camera phones are anywhere near a "real" digital camera anyway, for the intended use it is good enough I guess.

If i lived in the Sahara and had to pick between the T610 & a series 40 nokia, I'd probably have to take the 7250 etc simply for this reason - though if you add my P800 into the choice, it's obvious what I'd take! (Don't bash me, it's true. If you need a good SE phone for use in constant sunlight, the P800 is what you want - I've still got a T610 though, even with London pretending it's the Canaries recently....)
2. T9 speed is fine in the opinion of myself and all 8 housemates - and there's a lighning fast Chinese texter amongst them too!
3. Mine wasn't too bad, though it's being fixed today by Celestia; not an issue with a newer/fixed handset.
4. Not meant to be - it's a smaller res. camera for a small phone - it's not exactly P800/7650 sized, nor does it have a lead/clipon camera hanging off it, ala 7210/T68(i) - the only comparable cameraphone is the 7250, which is certainly no better, and IMHO a little worse.

I don't wanna bring this topic on another path, but I've heard that you can only cycle through words (when writing SMS) by pressing the + - buttons on the side. Is this true?

Cycle using up/down with joystick - there might be another way, but i don't think there is (the * key would add a symbol to the word, the # would add a space and pick the currently highlighted word - think the + would actually add a plus/zero, but can't remember - the phone's in the post to Celestia now to get the snake removed!

i use the joystick on the t300 to cycle through words, it's not annoying at all, i always owned nokias before this phone

Actually, I just tried typing some words using T9, and the volume controls (+,-) on the side of the phone do indeed toggle between the available words... Didn't realise that before, but will start using it now, just to save the joystick.

You don't have to do as much toggling between words on the T610 anyway since it automatically puts your most frquently used combinations as the defaults (e.g. on most T9 phones '4663' defaults to 'good' but if you use 'home' more often it will default to 'home').
