> Firmware upgrade on customized T610?

Hello,
Like some of you, I did purchase a Vodafone customized T610. And like most of you, I now hate Vodafone!..
I understand that it is not possible, using the 13 sec trick, to get rid of the customized settings.
So my questions are the following:
- Did any one with the same problem as me go to a Sony Ericsson Service Point to get a firmware upgrade?
- If yes, did it solve the problem of customized settings (i.e. did the phone turn back to normal)?
Please share your experience, as I belive not to be the only one looking for an answer

Is it the general consensus here, that once technically minded people have access to the T610 for a greater period of time, that a way will be found of getting rid of the customisation? Am I right in assuming that even the area on the 'chip' that contains the customisation must be writeable, just in case a problem was found in the code that needed to be fixed by a firmware flash?
Of course, any sort of crack/hack would no doubt have an effect on the warranty, but hopefully, if it was done properly, i.e. leaves no trace that it has been tampered with, then service centres would just assume it was a SIM free model.

Not really - you should assume 'never' if you really need an answer now.

Weeell, everyone who is working on this says the customisations are on the IMEI ROM - so it'll almost certainly be a void warranty job if there is any trace left of the changes made.
Nick & his Italian source who are working on this still haven't reported any success to me yet - apparently they've killed several handsets trying, though have recovered all but one. They're still hopeful though, but nothing is guarranteed.

One must need a code or something to reset it...
Also, just take a simple guess:
If it turned out that the Vodafone T610 had a major softawre issue, then only Vodafone could remedy it??? This is crazy, considering that Vodafone most presumably does not do Customer Support by itself, but rather sends the phones to SE?
I hear about a hissing problem, which I do not have, but did anyone with a customized phone try to get an upgrade? Did it work on a Voda phone?
Did anyone ask to SE if they can change the settings???

Sorry, you don't quite understand.
The IMEI ROM doesn't contain the firmware, nor any system information like that. The flash ROM has all the usual firmware on it, and that is what is altered & flashed when upgrading firmware etc. HOWEVER, there is only a standard firmware needed - the same firmware is flashed to Voda phones, T-mobile phones, SIM free phones etc.
Thus the network customisations have been written in the factory to the IMEI ROM to the specifications of those networks. Nothing can go faulty with this really, it's just a quick string few strings of code. Now the firmware on the phone, (flash ROM), upon startup looks to the other ROM for any customisations - if it finds none, it'd simply start up with everything 'default' (icons etc). However, if it DOES find any standing customisations, it'll ignore the standard settings from the flash ROM and will use the customisations from the IMEI ROM in it's place.
These won't be particularly big customisations as i said - it'll simply have the alternative icons, which the phone thus uses instead of default, the LIVE! icon for the bottom right of the screen, plus a string telling the phone to take the default WAP profile of the SIM card inserted, providing it matches an identification check. So even if voda change their WAP settings, the IMEI ROM still just acts as a pointer to the SIM card - Voda send a SIM update, thus changing the WAP settings on the SIM card, and the phone immediately uses the new ones.

I went to the official SE tech support for my area today and the guys were kind enough to try and update my Voda T610 to the "standard" SE firmware. With no success... their software says the handset is not compatible with that firmware (the only one available for unbranded models, as far as they can tell). I also contacted SE web customer service and they stated that "at present time, there is no fimware upgrade to solve this issue".
We can only hope that something will happen in the future.
The guys said to try again for "maybe new firmware will be compatible".
I'll keep you posted.

Basically, in this current thread, it is said that one cannot upgrade or flash a Voda T610 because the "handset" is not compatible.
On the other one, Haki says that in Greece, they did it...
Could we try to get some sort of definitive answer here?
I am going to try and go to a SE support shop in France to have it done. I'll keep you posted on that.

I don't know if this post is genuine; but I DO know that a Paul is the 'unlocking guy', amongst other things, at logosunlimited.co.uk, and that they can certainly SP unlock the T610. You might want to head over to there and have a look - if anyone can confirm they can actually do this, It'd be good to know.
Afraid i haven't been able to speak to Nick at MobileXchange in the last couple of weeks, but
as far as i am aware, he hasn't finalised the customisation removal.
