Has anybody experienced this ...
Hi,
I am new to SE so i dont know whether this a feature

Whenever i make a call, when the other party picks up the line, the phone displays this message onscreen " Ciphering Switched Off" and there is a "!" mark at the top of the phone ... Can this ge turned off or this is a feature...... What does it indicate because it makes a strange cling noise once when this message comes .......
Regards,
Alok Khemka

I have had quite a few SE/Ericsson phones, never encountered the problem. What phone do you have?

Last time I heard about this message, it was a network fault. The networks ciphering system had gone down, and the phone was just letting you know that the call wouldn't be secure.

Hmm, I'm not sure. If I were in your place I would make sure that it is a network fault and I would give you operator a call. If there is something wrong wait it out and the warning should go away. But if it really is bothering you try calling SE support, they should have an answer for the problem.

That is a network problem. If the network is not cyphering your calls, the phone warns about it, but it is still a network problem. Maybe your network operator has some problem, you should talk to them.

are you in India? I recall a thread a couple of months back that said that ciphering was not used in India... (I could be wrong though)

here is the link to what I think I remembered.

Ciphering is not used in India so as to facilitate the eavesdropping on cellular communications by the security authorities.
As you can imagine in these troubled times.
