> Different voltage chargers - Quick one

i have my original charger for my T68 and a new (virtually identicle one) for my T610, both have 'standard charger CST-13' on them, yet my old one has an output of 5.1V, while the new one has 4.9V. i know its a smal, almost negligable, different, but is there any reason for this? would it affect which phone i plug into it, i was under the impression all the Ericsson and SonyEricsson chargers are the same...?

Its not uncommon friends borrow chargers for their phones when

I think its the sort of question an electrician or electronics type person needs to ask and I too am interested as I switch between T610, T68i and T300 chargers depending on where I am etc... I also charge from USB and have no idea what that might be doing and hadn't considered it before.

An extra piece of info on this is the
CLA-11 car charger works with all current models so that suggests the chargers are interchangeable but still waiting to hear from someone knowledgable.

Most of the SE and Ericsson chargers (since T28) have been auto switching between 110 and 230(240) volts. With the older style Ericsson charger you just needed the appropriate plug for the bottom.

Thats the voltage from the wall... but we are interested here in the voltage going to the phone... i.e. the variances between 4.9v and 5.1v etc

Well the phone will internally condition the charger supply for the battery. A Li-ion or Li-poly battery is charged using a combination of constant current and constant voltage phases. The battery will peak at about 4.1V when fully charged so at this point the charging voltage applied is just enough for a trickle of current to be flowing, when the battery is flat at about 2.8V then there will be a fairly small current applied until the battery has reached nearer its normal 3.6V point when the current will increase until the battery voltage has risen towards 4.0V when the constant voltage phase will be started and the battery voltage will then gradually rise until the charging voltage is equal to the battery voltage.
The external supply needs to be high enough to cope with the overhead within the phone, so 4.9 or 5.1 volts is fine as there is at least a 0.8V margin.
