why can't I listen to my mp3 or the audio of videos with only my HPB-10 (SE wired headset)? Has anybody else tried this? Is it only my phone?
I can only listen via the stereo headphone output at the upper left of my phone using the included headset

It seems to me that the P800 has 2 channels of output. The audio output connectors at the base of the phone (where u plug in your HPB-10) is only limited to sounds emitted during phone calls and is mono.
The stereo jack at the top side of the phone (as well as the speaker at the back of the phone) handles both phone calls as well as the multimedia audio of the entire phone. The SW is programmed to cut off the mono audio outlet from the base of the phone once the stereo head set is inserted into the side of the phone (the stereo jack).
I have a HCA-20 car kit and initially thought that when the phone is inserted into the cradle with the base connected, I can listen to MP3s through the car speakers. But I was wrong.
