Does that mean they branded it with logos and vodafone specific firmware?

Not branded.... Australia doesn't do that... but it has the Vodafone menu in it. But it is simcard dependent with Vodafone over here.

I've certainly never bought a locked phone in Aus but Vodafone never used to lock and brand their phones in UK until Vodafone Live (at least none that I have ever known on my travels). Just thought maybe they were starting that back home too.

All Phones in Australia are locked unless on contract. Vodafone doesn't charge to get locks removed though

does this mean phones on contract are NOT locked?

seems the wrong way around to me.

Anyway, I have certainly never bought a locked phone in Sydney, even on contract from Optus or Telstra, although now I think of it I haven't bought on contract for 2 or 3 years.

Normally phones in Aus are not locked as the telcos don't give any handset subsidy. You have to pay full price.

ALL PRE PAID are! Contracts arn't... Don't ask me why... its just the way we do it over here.

You buy prepaid... they lock your phone... you get a plan, you are alway giving them money, so they don't care if you not using their service.

I have about 2 phones prepaid that are locked... I have 1 I have unlocked on Vodafone for free... and I have 2 phones on plans.
(I don't use all the phones)
